No need to assume: We will be hit

Statistically, the dinosaur killers are rare. The continent killers and city busters are far more frequent.

If you have young children, then the chances of a city buster hitting during their lifetimes is one. For example, we living today had one go off in the South Pacific in 1994. Our parents had 2 hits in the South American jungles. Our grandparents had one hit in Siberia.

While the chances are good it may not fall on a city, on the other hand, it may. The point is that with modern technology we can reduice that chance to zero at a very low cost.
