Wrong on 2 Counts

A fossil fuel is a fuel number one and comes from a fossil source number 2. I believe Methanol's primary use is as a solvent, it certainly is in the applications I'm familiar with. Methane is a better fuel so turning it into methanol for fuel makes little sense. A manufactured solvent is neither a fossil nor a fuel. It can be made both by the path Larry mentioned and yours. You can rest assured that the primary path is the most cost effective one not necessarily the only one.
