I didn't look it up, so I'm glad you mentioned the location (It's not laziness so much as tiredness).

How about, in keeping with the vent idea, a passive occurrence? Not necessarily and active vent so much a seasonal exchange of moisture collected through condensation along the walls of the dead, volcanic catacombs that must network the Tharsis Ridge?
