The white area that you describe should be indicating moisture, if it was dust it should have a color close to the surface color. I'm vouching for the authenticity of this image, I processed it. I went back and took look at the full-size image to get a look at the dark Western edge of the solid white area you describe. This would be shadow if it was on the other side of the white cloud, being on the Western edge it looks like the white area would be snow cover with the dark edge area being melting snow. Thank you for your complement on this image you have an eye for quality:-)
