Re: Distance appreciations
One light year is about 10,000,000,000,000 km or ten thousand billion kilometers.
The nearest star is about 4 lightyears away.
The size of our galaxy is 100,000 LY (diameter).
M31, the Andromeda Galaxy is 2,900,000 LY away from us.
Which means about 100 times more distant than the center of our own Milky Way, from us (30,000 LY).
However, One light-year is about 2,000 times further away than Pluto.
Why is it so much more difficult for the Star Trekkers to go to Andromeda, only 100 times away from a Quadrant distance, when they have the technology at hand to travel 60 million times further than Pluto? (2,000 x 30,000).
Beats me.....
