On Star date 41263.1 the traveler sends the Enterprise 1701D not only out of our Milkyway Galaxy but through several other galaxies.
Yea the episode was somewhat of an anomaly.
I believe the Romulans are in the Beta Quadrant so it is understandable that not a lot is known about that quadrant.
