The sky is.............BLACK!!!

In Provence, last week-end, I met with lots of internet friends (from french speaking countries) and made a speech about Phil Plait's book "Bad Astronomy".
What we must (unfortunately) stress, is that the sky, in space, is totally, completely, irrevocably BLACK, BLACK, BLACK!!!
Nope, no stars, just plain black.
There are circumstances when stars can be seen, but then you need to orbit a large enough world to be in it's shadow for a long enough period for your eyes to get accustomed to darkness, AND you should have all lights off inside the spacecraft.
I told my friends I felt having been betrayed by all the misguiding space art we are so familiar with.
Amateur astronomers are hardly in space, but they can see stars, only because they really want to.
