Re: More on Boeing Anti-Grav

"If this turns out to be real, it will be fantastic....."
Cause it would be a spiffy new weapon?? Or you mean the bit about anti-gravity and spaceships.
It seems to me that anti-gavity wouldn't really solve the problem of getting into space even if this anti-gravity device could actually work.
A space launch vehicle doesn't lose much delta-v to gravity. The problem with getting into space is getting something to go fast. The basic solution to getting something to go really fast is to use some kind of rocket.
Now if you could significantly reduce the affects of gravity then it would allow you to slowly go straight up and if you go up high enough (1000's of miles) then you would get some speed from the Earth spin, but this wouldn't "apply" if you were merely getting a 5 or 10% reduction in gravity and/or the "range" was limit to hundreds of miles (or hundreds of feet).
If this anti-gravity was real and say if it reduced gravity by less than 10% then it's basically going to be limited to assisting a rocket launch.
I do think that "things" that will assist a rocket launch will be significant in getting us into space. Things like using motherships to launch rockets, MagLev launch systems, and/or Big/stupid/dumbass first stage rocket which are reusable. I also think things which "help at the other end" will be significant such as tethers, microwave power relays, gas stations, and/or "shuttles" (vehicles which go from orbit down to high atmosphere then back up to orbit).
BUT all these new technological wonders wouldn't really solve anything- the problem isn't lack of technology, the problem is lack of demand for getting into space. If you had high demand, then using "normal rockets" with "normal market conditions" you would have a significant reduction (down to hundreds of dollar per lb) in launch price.
The problem of getting into Space is political not lack of technology. Political problems are not synonymous to "insignificant problems", political problems are the reason million starve each year, cause wars and billions-trillion of dollars tossed in the trashcan.
