Would sure be a good way to have a manned mission without all the attention.
Could also be a way to check their telemetry, see it's capabilities after the vibrations of take-off and flight.
If it's simple to do, I would think they may as well be cautious. After all, the US lost more lives in early explorations than did the USSR, even though we think we are supreme in our regard for life.
Overpressurizing a capsule which had all those electrical connections with oxygen was at best reckless.
