One would hope so.

I think it's inevitable there be tourism. I respect the Russians for promoting it so as to fund their program. And there could be an unexpected benefit if one is of the mind that ISS is now a waste.

I suspect that some part of the public and lawmakers might rebel against heavily subsidized vacations for rich folks and rock stars. Not the travel, but for Uncle Sugar spending billions upon billions for the hotel. On a close NASA budget vote, a couple of legislators might think it's just not a particularly serious venture, and want to use the money elsewhere.

If a 23 y/o rock star can "do it", maybe "it" ain't much - that sort of thing.

(I know the tourists aren't going to be doing the tricky stuff.)

Some could think that with 83% of the crew time of ISS needed for station maintenance, with rock stars flying up for the heck of it, maybe whatever is left of the $96 billion could be used for something else. It's not a real productive exercise.

Arf (I'd by a lottery ticket if I thought it would get me to ISS, though.)
