Over the coming decades, Mankind is in store for a major overhaul. Our genome will be streamlined and rebuilt from the ground up. Gene sequences from other species will be incorporated into it, giving the New Men abilities far beyond our own. Add to this nanotechnology, and the Children of Man will become more godlike than mortal. Their life spans will stretch for centuries or longer, rapid healing and regeneration will ensure crippling injuries are a thing of the past. Genetically modified, nanite reinforced immune systems will be able to stop any and all invaders. Illness and disease will become nothing more than scary stories to future generations.
This vision of the future is the main reason why I'm studying to become a geneticist. Hopefully I'll be able to do my part to make it a reality.
