I've nothing against the people or state of Minnesota, but when Walter Mondale was senator from that state [1964-1976], he opposed nearly all
the ambitious manned space projects
proposed by NASA.
Those of us, here on Habitablezone.com, who are more than 35 years-old would remember his strong
opposition to NASA's ambitious proposal's
after Apollo 11.
Along with Senator William Proxmire
[remember him?], they opposed the idea of of a NASA moonbase, they opposed the idea of a manned mission to Mars, they even opposed the idea of a combined space-shuttle and space-station project [back in 1970-72].
As VP under Carter [1977-81], Mondale barely supported the space-shuttle project, and only then when it became clear that the Pentagon was interested in it.
If the Pentagon had not shown interest
in the space-shuttle in the 1970's, my
opinion is...is that Prez Carter and VP Mondale who have canceled the project.
I don't see Walter Mondale, as an aged senator, approving any ambitious manned
space projects in the future.

Walter Mondale (was) isn't good news for NASA's budget plans.
