Even on the B/W tv we had on that Christmas eve, as a 12 yr old kid i was glued to the TV set, here on the east coast the TV show was on prime time and Uncle Walter had the best color commentary. Also, the shots of the earthrise were AWE- SUM, and when they returned with the color shots, well, the press was right when they said Apollo 8 bailed out 1968.
