The IMAX theater near us is always packed, but it seems to get forever for the films we want to see to get here. The closes one to us is part of a children's discovery and science museum. Mostly the reason why it gets crowded. :) The next closest one is at the Kennedy Space Center where we saw L-5.

The only 'digital' part of the system seems to be the sound:

[Unlike typical commercial movies, the sound for the Hackworth's IMAX films is not embedded in the film stock. Instead, the digital sound is played from a compact disc and is synchronized with the images by a special audio controller.]
