Not really
Until now, everything's been based on the current television format. That format is about to be done away with for a new standard. I just didn't see the need for buying into DVD, which has only been around in a big way for a couple of years, when I knew that HD DVDs were just around the corner. Unlike my VHS , which I've gotten about 2 decades of use out of, spending the money for something with it's successor just a few years away didn't seem worth it.
I just hope that CDs still have a ways to go, my collection is over 300 strong.
