People go up to the ISS in Soyuz capsules.
And how long did astronauts sit in Geminis and Apollos? No picnic, but they did it. And our capsule is at least as roomy as an Apollo, with a space behind the seats 6 1/2 feet in diameter and 3 feet deep (assuming it isn't filled with equipment.)
