I can, and do, judge what I hear using my own intellect. If you haven't gotten this impression from my posts, sorry. It's not like some of the people I argue with here are sterling examples of skeptical source analysts. Is there a word like "dittohead"* for someone who posts stuff from Rense.com or other such places?
I first saw this photo a week or so ago as part of a presentation I was working on, and gave it little thought except as a background for the cover lettering.
Rush mentioned a cool Columbia sunset photo on his show yesterday morning, saying he would post it on his site later. I didn't bother to check it out later, having other things to do. Finally, Andrew Sullivan mentioned it on his site, and I went to the Rush link to take a look. I thought it was cool that this was the same photo I had just used for a presentation cover, and immediately posted the link. When I checked my post after uploading it to make sure the picture link had worked, it was the first time I had ever looked closely at the picture, and, as I posted immediately afterwards, I saw a number of flaws.
Be honest: how many intelligent people who don't have a background in science and space would have spotted this as a fake, or to be more precise, not a real space photo?
*Which probably doesn't mean what you think it does
