Re: Perhaps “Hot Air” IS the answer.

First of all, I must say that I am not discounting all the other effects mentioned here and elsewhere, but one effect that might slow down Earth’s rotation has not been mentioned. At least I have not read about it anywhere.

I assume that most of you understand the physics of angular momentum.
Or to state my assumption differently, I assume that most of you understand why a spinning skater will spin faster if they pull their arms in towards the body and why the spinning motion will slow down if they stretch their arms out.

The Earth’s atmosphere is ‘linked’ to the surface by gravity and friction, and that is a good thing, otherwise the wind speed would equal the speed of the Earth’s surface in space, and that speed is quite fast.
Although this ‘air to surface’ link is not as ‘solid’ as the arms of the skater, the effects of physics still apply, (taking into consideration the fluid dynamics of air) in that, if the atmosphere is expanding outward into space, the spin of the Earth must be slowing down.

When any material is heated it expands, this phenomenon is also true for air. If more than the ‘usual’ amount of energy is released or stored in the Earth’s atmosphere, then the atmosphere will ‘expand’ and push further into space. Here then we enter into the ‘green house effect’ controversy, which may be only partly responsible for the expanding air.

I will not explain my ‘pet theory’ about what may also contribute to the heating of the air. This idea or ‘theory’ has been ‘pushed aside’ by many people. Perhaps, because they ‘pushed it aside’, no one has looked into it deeply enough to understand what really IS going on, nor has anyone in any discussions ‘proven’ their assumptions about it one way or another.

I will simply ask:
1) How much radioactive material has been released or escaped into the atmosphere during the present ‘nuclear age’?
2) How much kinetic energy or heat, does this ‘released/escaped’ nuclear radiation represent?

If you have FACTS that give answers to these two questions, please post them here.

Thank You
Johannes
