Re: Some interesting back and forth on Shuttle replacement

I say this:
"One way NASA should start getting out of the business is by buying launches from private sector. And doing things which would encourage the private sector to develop a launch capablity that NASA can use."
Marks says this:
"I'm pretty sure all current space vehicles including Ariane have been developed with at least some government help. This get rid of NASA stance also ignores the fact that past NASA paid research has lead to commercial vehicles. This sounds like more SFF style brainstorming (ie brainfarting) like the fabulous Mircorp idea."

Who is brainfarting?
My point is very simple, NASA should not be in the launch business. Just as NASA is not and should be in the airline business; which, in case you need this explained further, does not mean that NASA should not be involved with the airline business in some ways. For example, part of NASA's job is to do things which improve air transportation, but this is not the same as NASA running the airlines or one airline.

The idea that NASA should not be in the launch business is not merely some "wonderful idea", rather it's the stated policy of our govt. If you disagree with this policy, then make the case which shows why you think this is a bad policy or simply shut up.
