Space/Science

I saw the movie "The Right Stuff" again last night.

Funny how you notice different
things you didn't notice before, every time you see a movie again.
Saw TRS on TV again last night.

A couple of things I noticed anew:
The movie's subtext indicated that
it was "Star City" from where the
first Sputnik was launched on Oct/04/57.
[BUZZER] Wrong!
The launch-site was actually
Baikanor...I have a Russian-English
dictionary handy; "Baikanor" does not mean "Star City".
In Russian, "Star City" would be translated/pronounced "Zvezda-Grad".

Then they showed the scene inside
a B-29 that carried aloft Yeager in "Glamorous Glennis". They showed
the B-29 pilot & co-pilot wearing
oxygen-masks inside their B-29 cabin.
[BUZZER] Wrong!
Even I know B-29's had pressurized-cabins; you didn't need oxygen-masks inside them.

Another error was the use of historic
"stock-footage" showing failed Atlas
launches. However! All the failed Atlas
launches shown did not involve Mercury-Atlas variants...I clearly saw a couple of Atlas variants blowing themselves to bits
which were ICBM versions of Atlas [not meant for the Mercury project]...I don't think the Mercury Seven would have witnessed those launch-attempts.
