I remember similar glorious predictions for the Soviet Union space program back in the 1960s. That was also back when a lot of people assumed the enlightened socialists would clobber us in the areas of industry and progress in many areas.
Back in the old days of communism, every propaganda poster from the Soviet Union and China showed the proud proletarians standing there, often holding some kind of tool, while power lines and belching smokestacks filled the backgrounds.
