Arggggh! Just when I was feeling elated...

...over an avocational triumph I had
achieved, then this! Being reminded
of another Russian manned spaceflight
that also missed the mark; Voshkod-2.
And how annoyed I feel that Hollywood
has unjustly ignored that remarkable story.

Hollywood turned the Apollo-13 mission and its harrowing, nearly-disastrous circumstances
into a popular movie. Rightly so.

But Voshkod-2? Not a whisper from Hollywood. Not a word from Tinseltown.

The Voshkod-2 cosmonauts endured
dangers, harrowing circumstances, and perils that were as dramatic and as tense as those of Apollo-13.

(1) The Voshkod-2 cosmonaut, Alexei Leonov, took a spacewalk that saw him
violently bang into the spacecraft repeatly; troubling his partner inside.

(2) Then, Alexei couldn't squeeze back inside the airlock, and for 10-13 minutes desperately struggled to get back in knowing his life depended on it.

(3) Alexei Leonov took the dangerous/nearly lethal measure
of depressurizing his suit to get back in the airlock...He made it! Barely!
He was probably seconds from death
as his suit continued to deflate.

(4) Jettisoning their airlock, shortly after, the spacecraft went into a brief
uncontroled tumble.

(5) The next day, the two cosmonauts
managed to find out, in the nick of time, that their "automatic" reentry
device was incorrectly set; coming close to putting the two on a reentry
that would have burned the two up.

(6) Using manual reentry instead the two landed in an isolated, blizzard-swept, tree covered, wolf-infested region near the Urals, 1000-2000 miles from their intended landing site.

(7) Even before landing, during reentry, their landing-capsule went into a brief wild spin during descent,
coming perilously close to preventing proper parachute deployment.

(8) After an unexpectedly hard landing,
Alexei and Pavel had to endure a bitterly cold night in their craft,
having had to retreat into it because
of threatening wolves.

Do any of you have friends in the the
movie industry in Hollywood?
Tell them about the true adventures
and perils of the Voshkod-2 mission.
The two cosmonauts deserve to have their story
up on the silver screen.
