I'd like to think so, Buck! :)
Unfortunately, it seems, whatever Mr. Bush's strengths are, 'vision' is not to be found among them - a statement applicable to *MOST* politicians, without regard to affiliation...
About the ISS? - Well, I suppose it offers some, undeniable, 'springboard value'…
Indeed I wish to see a return to an aggressive, and, hence truly inspirational space program! NASA bemoans the apathy of the 'rising generation' Re space: - Little wonder when one looks back upon a quarter century's stagnation :( - Glory be to the competitive pressure exerted by China, et al. (Perhaps our 'last best hope') - Yeah, I find it a bit 'silly' that competition should prove a greater motivator than human curiosity (or, if you will, "the spirit of discovery") - but if it works, it works! :)
My $.02 anyway :)

- Space engineering pioneer says dump the shuttle
- Why not have NASA simply offer competitive prizes like Burt Rutan wants (and probably Jeff Bezos & Elon Musk, too)?
- statement of the obvious
- The shuttle does have its uses
- Doing so would be effectively dumping the ISS, too
