overly-helpful browser

Buck,

I'll bet you're using Internet Explorer 5+. It has a feature called "AutoComplete" that tries to remember how you previously filled out a form and supplies your last answer the next time. The input box is labeled "Subject" here and in Outlook, and IE and Outlook share some common software. Safe to say that the common code is failing to distinguish between "Subject" here and "Subject" in Outlook.

You can turn off this feature with Tools-Internet Options-Content; click the "AutoComplete" button.

The BBS software collects the following information:

• your IP address (this is stored in messages for now, but a future version will keep it private on the server, so people won't be able to play guess-the-identity)
• whatever name you give
• an optional email address, if you give it (in a future version the system will also keep this private, and act as an anonymous email gateway)
• your message.

That's it. There is nothing that would look at anything on your computer, let alone transmit it anywhere. As we add features, they'll be oriented proactively toward protecting privacy, not invading it.
