I like some of your ideas about what can be done to the aircraft.
The best way is to create a bullet proof door and wall between the cabin and cockpit. Also a restroom and refresher are could be part of the cockpit.
We will never do away with carry-ons, like you suggested in a previous post, for the simple fact that airlines lose luggage. Also business travelers rarely check luggage, unless they are on an extended stay.
Having clear luggage bins is interesting, hawever Carryons have pockets, so I don't think they'd be of much help.
There is no such thing as fool-proof. I am sure that there will alwys be a way to get around whatever is thought of. We can make the planes safer, and deal with the threat directly. I like the idea of sky marshals.
Technology will help. Computer programs could probably help x-ray scanners by looking for certain shapes as you suggested. As they get better looking recognizing faces, they may be able to catch known-terrorists as they check-in as well. Disguises will make this harder, but some things don't change such as distance between the eyes, nose, ears and mouth. If a computer suspects a terrorist, it could alert officials to take a closer look.
Things will be changing. It will cost money and time for travelers, but it will be safer.
