It has occurred to me (and I'm sure to many others) that it was an interesting conincidence the leader of the Afgan Northern alliance was assassinated shortly before the recent WTC terrorist action. The assassination was sophisticated. The killers planted bombs (plastic explosive?) in television cameras that were later used in an interview with the Northern alliance leader. The bomb explosion mortally wounded the leader and killed some journalists. It would not be hard to believe the Taliban had earlier ordered bin Laden to discontinue attacking western nations while operating in Afganistan. Bin Laden's terrorist actions really brought no benefit to the Taliban. However it would not be difficult to imagine bin Laden negotiating with the Taliban through offering them the option of his network killing the Taleban's main enemy provided the Taleban guaranteed to shield bin Laden from American retribution. It was probably pointless to ask the Taliban to extradite bin Laden.

Taliban might have made an earlier deal with bin Laden
