Hi, Raoul.
Grim thoughts on such a beautiful day. September 11 was a beautiful day in NYC, too. :(
How many people who jumped hoped to survive the fall, by some miracle? How many were overcome by fear of fire, or the claustrophobic feeling of being entombed in a high-rise mausoleum? I wonder how many people who jumped realized that the buildings would collapse. My guess is, not many. Not a rational decision to jump, surely, but one driven by blind panic. We can say that their decision, if one can call it that, was justified in hindsight: survival was not an option.
The terrorists are a class unto themselves. There is no reasoning with the promise of heaven forever in trade for a few moments of hell.
Regards--
Mary Anne
