No far fetched historical argument can justify the actions of the Taliban and OBL (hell, the bastard's got his own acroym now...)
I too could poke around through historical records, find some injustice my great-great grandfather suffered, then express my outrage by murdering 6,000 civilians?? I don't think so.
The three greatest evils and threats to humanity in the last 100 years are
1) Hitler and the Nazi's
2) Communism led by the former Soviet Union
3) Radical, fundamentalist Islam as practiced by the likes of OBN, his Al-Queda followers, and the states that support it.
two down, one to go...
I highly recommend Stratfor's analysis, as posted by Dan, on the world-wide war Al-Queda has declared on the civilized world, and the best strategies the US and their allies have to defeat it.
