I am not saying that the Taliban "arranged" these casualties, but sociopathic cultures have done so in recent times.
Read 'Ghost Soldiers" and you'll find that the Japanese in the Phillipines at WWII's end put US POWs into pits covered by logs, then tossed grenades, and other bombs in to make it appear that we bombed our own guys. A half dozen POWS escaped in the confusion to tell the tale.
