<Are they willing to go into Afghanistan to set up a distribution network, especially after the ever lovable Taliban kicked out foreign aid workers weeks ago?
For this, I would have to say yes. Yes, Larry, they would march into that arena and they would face the Taliban in an effort to relieve the suffering. That's how they are. That's how they run their organizations. At the moment, however, the borders are closed to them.
The aid workers were booted because the U.S. started pointing fingers at the Taliban. If we had just settled down after the attack on the Twins and the Pentagon, and if we had just apologized for our rudeness overseas, none of this would be happening today.
No, the scenario I set up is impossible. No governmental retaliation would have had me personally on the road to Capital Hill, and I doubt very much I'd be alone. We went.
And we saw the state of affairs in Afghanistan -- affairs that would not improve without military intervention. Many will die, and a lot of them completely innocent, and there will be kids involved, but without the military, the agony of that nation would simply continue, with aid workers doing what they could to prolong the suffering.
They would go in if we would let them, but it's not time yet,
Dan
