You can't argue with their analysis but our people are aware of these pitfalls and they do have the advantage of ongoing intelligence.
I think that Pakistan may become a major player in the long term pacification of Afghanistan. They have the military power, influential muslim clerics and a vested interest in a stable government as a neighbor.
I just can't see us letting ourself in for a Russian experience in that god awful place.
