If we had waited much longer, domestic politics would have begun moving away from President Bush.
If we had waited much longer, ObL/Taliban attacks on the USA or the West could have fissioned our alliance.
The intractable chaos of Aghanistan politics should not be the determining factor of our policy, IMHO.
We are forcing the different factions withing the ObL spohere of influence to to look at faster responses than they wanted, and anything to upset these group's plans gives us more chances to catch and intervene.
But the Afghani miasma is not going to go away in a winter. Somewhere in that tragic land are leaders who will be credible and independent enough to find a way to forge a new social compact.
The war support in the USA must not be held hostage to that search, however.
