"Of all the words known to men...

the saddest are 'If only when.'"

Hindsight is indeed 20/20 most of the time. It's easy in retrospect to complain about not removing Saddam when we had the chance, especially if we forget that both Congressional and UN authorizations to use military force only allowed for liberating Kuwait. It's easy to blame Clinton for various things, but we sometimes forget that the changes that hampered intelligence efforts date back to 1979. It's easy to criticize the FBI for not knowing about the attacks beforehand, until we hear about stories like this.

There is a time and place to look for who dropped the ball over Sept 11th, but I don't think this is it. We do need to look at the failures so we can try to prevent them from happening again. However, our strongest efforts should be directed towards the future needs. Dwelling on laying blame on this administration or that one accomplishes little in the long run.
