That's the way politics has always been throughout history. Its basically about guys in suits (or togas, or armor, or powdered wigs) who think they should be in charge and making more money.

From their point of view, they are just seeking the freedom to excel. They want to be as good as they can be, to maximize their potential, to achieve.

It attracts a kind of personality that believes everyone else is lazy, cowardly, stupid, or unambitious, so they deserve whatever they get. They take what they can from the little man and from their community and they tolerate no interference or restraint. Consequently, they are often in conflict with others like themselves; although they also have a genius to ally themselves with their competitors to perfect their domination of those they prey on. It is safer, after all, to wage war on your victims than it is to do so with your rivals.

Its a wonder things work as well as they do. Politics isn't about ideology, or sociology, its about pathological psychology.
