shearing the sheep

My personal opinion is that people don't really care much about this sort of thing.
After all the CIA's involvement in drug trafficking in Laos as well as South America is very well documented, along with countless involvements of the Bush familly, yet people still vote for them.
It's the difference between shearing and slaughtering sheep, sheep being the people. All these frauds take a part of people's income, but they just have to work harder and longer until they make it all back. Few people actually have their lives ruined by it, not enough to protest enough to change things. The supreme court for example in its Bush decision made in the opinion of most legal scholars the most corrupt decision in the history of the US, something that will be in the textbooks for all time. Vince Bugliosi wrote a book about it, and one of the most interesting things was that he said all his Republican friends didn't care that it was corrupt, only that their guy won.
Essentially it's the same with all these things, that Republicans sense that the party serves their interests in some ways and simply don't care enough about the corruption to stop it.
This was shown by the Dark Alliance story, that the CIA brought in most of the Cocaine in America and Escobar claimed he had a partnership with Bush senior didn't sell many newspapers. Not only were people unwilling to stop it, they didn't even want to hear it.
Still the Great Game as they call it, is interesting to watch and isn't likely to go away anytime soon. Is it wrong? If it was then people would stop doing it. Maybe it's just capitalism in action.
I doubt there is much bad that Dubya could do that would stop him being reelected.
