Spoiling good war stories with the facts again...
I wonder though if this amounts to criminal behaviour by Dubya. A government official is not allowed to make decisions that benefit himself financially without disclosure, the most recent examples being Rove's advising Intel while owning their stock and Paul O'Neill delaying selling his Alcoa stock while changing the laws with electricity companies like Enron, which made his stock go up to make a personal $60 million profit. Dubya's father is on the board of Carlysle which is a big investor in military contractors, and one wonders if they also invest in airlines, etc. They do own substantial interests in cable in the Washington area, which makes their deregulation of that market also a big money maker. If the son pushes policies that make the father a lot of money, this goes to Dubya over time as he will inherit a lot of it. So in a sense when he advocates military spending he is in effect putting perhaps tens of millions of dollars in his own pocket over time. I wouldn't be surprised if Carlysle has investments in building the missile shield as well.
Somehow I think Cheney will go back to Halliburton after leaving office, and having made so much money for them. That'll be the second time. You have to admire these guys in a way, to get away with stuff like this.
