This is from the UK, Tom. Things might be handled different were the request to have come from a concerned Parliament with UK troops preparing to go toe-to-toe with the al Qaeda, or perhaps The Guardian might consider soldiers from their own homeland are worthy of news editing. I can't think of a single private citizen who has any requirement for "all the news all the time." It's nice to have, but, without the "need" to know, that's really all it is.
Freedom of the Press, I believe, allows the press to edit its print? They do have editors on staff, correct? Perhaps Great Britain does not. Pity.
Anyway, once the war is settled, the truth will out in tribunals to follow, and we'll all get new history books.
