I don't think we want the NA to take over
by themselves. If what I've been reading is accurate, they're in many ways not much better than the Taliban.
I think the goal is to defeat the Taliban and help put in a more representative government. If we started knocking off Taliban targets too aggressively, the NA would likely seize Kabul. The Pakistani government is worried that would result in a bloodbath and a prolonged civil war.
