Back in January 1988, a group of us DSCS-II & III satellite operater trainees were sent from Colorado Springs to Sunnyvale, CA for some hands-on experience in the "Blue Cube" (the satellite ops facility at Onizuka AFB). We were going to be there for two months, so almost everyone chose to drive. Since it was Winter and the weather could be dangerous, several people decided to drive in groups. They communicated with each other using CB radios. A buddy of mine drove his Samauri loaded with his stuff. Every time he went up a hill, he'd fall further behind. He'd try to catch up on the downhills but just didn't have the power. After a few hours of this, someone piped up on the radio, "Hey, Bill. When are you going to get a REAL car?"
Of course, I'm someone who drives a CRV so I really don't have a lot of room to gloat. It's a 2001 model, does quite well in the snow, is comfortable, handles well, and gets better than 28 MPG on the highway. It's a keeper.
