I have some repressed memories about those horrible '50s movies

Most of them were so bad that I don't want to remember them, much less own them. Funny thing about those movies - kids making out get chomped on a pretty regular basis. That continued though the slasher flicks of the 80s. There's some kind of message there but I really don't want to think about it.

As bad as those '50s movies were (and most were awful), I still rank "Quintet" as the worst movie I ever saw, and I'm including Army training films and all those movies I watched in school. It's hard to believe that Paul Newman made a movie this bad. I saw it when I was stationed in Germany. The ticket cost $1. When I sat down, there were only about a dozen of us. That was a bad sign. Throughout the movie, people left one by one. Those of us who stayed to the end (about 5 or 6) kept saying "It has to get better than this." It never did.
