Their job is flying. Pulling a stunt like that would get them grounded faster than you'd ever think a government agency could move. Their bread and butter is on the line every time they fly and every one of them knows it, so there's no way any one of them would be stupid enough to something like the article describes. Crop dusters were grounded for a couple weeks after the Sept 11th attacks and no one wants a repeat of that. No flying = no income while the expenses just keep on coming.
Crop dusting is a tough business. The planes are expensive (often several hundred thousand dollars) and so are the maintenance and fuel costs. It costs a fortune to get the required insurance and requires frequent recertification training. They normally work very early in the mornings when the air is most calm, have tight deadlines, and fly their planes on the ragged edge to get the most performance while avoiding things like power lines. Don't let anyone kid you, it takes a lot of strength and skill to fly a cropduster.
Odds are these senseless incidents are some punk's idea of a joke. I hope they catch the moron(s) and throw them in jail. Stupid stuff like this hurts all of us in general aviation and none of us want idiots like this sharing the sky with us.

Professional crop dusters would never do that
