I don't think it should be too hard to track the plane down. They have limited range, and must take-off and land pretty close by. How much would it take to scour all the small airstrips in the area? Somebody had to see it take off and land.
Weren't there any tail numbers on the plane. I would think somebody in the coast gaurd would have paid attention to that. Especially in that crop dusters must fly so low to deliver their payload.
