Circa 1990 (AKA the Gulf War):
Had a female Marine in Saudi who was in fatigue uniform and sitting at a coffee bar. A member of the notorious religious police walked up to her with his whip (similar to a short riding crop) and hit her shoulder with it. She stood and told the man that if he touched her again, she would break his arm. He did. She did. There was a flight out-of-country that evening.
I have no proof of the above, as it was hear-say. Like as not a story told to new arrivals regarding the very real religious police of Saudi Arabia -- but it still might be true...
