Another entry in the "Duh!" list from academia...

From the article:

...That was agreeably surprising. What shocked me were my interviews with scholars of non-western cultures. Here, I am referring not only to western specialists in the great non-western traditions, but scholars who were themselves born into those traditions - Arab archaeologists or writers, economists and historians from India and China, poets and dramatists from Japan and Africa. All of them - there were no exceptions - said the same thing. In the 20th century, in the modern world, there were no non-western ideas of note.

One of the hallmarks of the left, which includes a vast majority of the media and our academics (of which the New Statesman is a representative of both), is the ability to stare a blindingly obvious fact straight in the face, and completely ignore it. For this reason many of their policies and programs are pushed on us regardless of their constant, repeated abysmal failures all over the world.

The role of Western culture and values in forming the civilized world of today would be obvious to a six-year-old, yet here it is in this article* as though some brilliant person at the New Statesman had just discovered it. Ayn Rand, to name only one, trumpeted the superiority of Western culture in improving the human condition decades ago.

It is critical to realize that Western culture is NOT a monopoly of European white guys. Have critical ideas and technical developments come from Asians, Africans, Hispanics, etc? Of COURSE they have. The kicker is that most of these were Americans descended from these groups, or were living in nations like Japan which have largely adopted Western ideas. So it's still Western culture all the way.

There is a comment link attached to the article--it will be interesting to see the stuck-pig squealing of the magazine's usual readers at this hideously politically-incorrect statement.
