Under the occupation, the BBC was the radio everybody (well, those who didn't collaborate) listened to, because all the others on the continent were under the control of the Germans or their collaborators. It's the BBC the General De Gaulle used to incite the french to resist or to join his forces in London (the june 18th appeal).
The BBC was the most reliable source of information at the time, for those who had to withstand occupation.
