Assuming it's all true, it does suggest a mechanism for maintaining a liberal media: if only 28% of the population is republican and 35% is conservative, then you guys are lucky to be represented in mass media to the extent that you currently are! Mass media is designed to appeal to the greatest number of citizens. So this would put republicans/conservatives on a par with racial minorities that complain that mainstream media under- or mis-represents them. Debate shows that attempt to give equal time to conservatives are really mis-representing the population and they should pare away the conservatives till they get to the the 2/3 to 1/3 ratio! (this is of course a "modest proposal").

When the article goes on to complain about the cynicism of the press, I have to disagree. When the press starts to be less cynical, then it will lose all credibility with me. I require reporters who do not believe what they are told and keep digging mercilessly. My boy Clinton fell prey to this, and you don't hear me crying about how badly the press mistreated him.
