The move, "Operation Dumbo Drop" is supposedly based on a true incident, but I could find only this and this small bit of info on the Net. The first item, discussing the reaction to the sedative, goes a long way towards explaining why the second item calls it "Operation Bahrooooom!"*
Obviously, you could not actually parachute an elephant without killing it, but just getting it on a plane would be tricky enough.
