Nobody argues that the planet is isn't warmer now than it was when the Little Ice Age ended.
What too many people consider an "incontrovertible fact" is that this is due to human activities, and that the only answer is more government power over our lives and economic activities, more wealth redistribution, and managed scarcity. Which, by coincidence, is some people's solution for every problem society has.
The "creationism" thing is a straw man. Belief in creationism in our society is largely a private matter. Unlike the idea of human-caused global warming, creationism has no real effect on public policy, the economy, or state power. Heck, liberals consider it the Fall of Civilization if a school district somewhere in the Southwest decides to teach the subject.
And, as a reminder, belief in some form of creationism is not that rare in our country, and includes a considerable number of Giant-Brained Democrats.
Most of which went to public schools.

It gets a little tricky though, doesn't it?
