<"...viewpoints such as the professor's had no right to be presented on campus..."
If I had a dollar for every time I've heard something like this from the newspaper-burning leftist Junior Stormtroopers on campuses around the country...
I have been trumpeting this situation for a long time, and have mostly received The Big Yawn from liberals. The philosophical poison that is being stuffed into young Americans on our campuses is a critical issue. It is no different than if faculty members were all Grand Dragons of the Ku Klux Klan, and constantly ragging on students about the inferiority of non-whites.
Do Marxists have a right to teach their beliefs? In this country, of course. But I'll be damned if I am going to help them pretend that their opinions are valid, moderate, reasonable, and the proper thing to teach a child.
Thanks for the info, Phil. The LA Times had stuff on this that has vanished from their web site, but fortunately not from the Google cache (a lifesaver!).
