Seriously though, there are a few horror stories circulating about clearly-innocent people being locked up for extended lengths of time without being told why they were in custody. If these turn out to be true, then Ashcroft needs a spanking. That's how we protect our liberty in this country.

It does not matter whether you trust some politician more than you trust the ACLU. When something looks fishy, then you need an inquiry. The ACLU is calling for an inquiry.

As soon as the public decides it trusts some politician so much that his actions never need looking into, then the rule of law over men is lost.
